Objective
This poster measures 23.35" x 33"and advertises a fictitious event celebrating the foundational funk musician and beloved Cincinnati legend Bootsy Collins.
The aim of this project is to experiment with typographic elements to create an eye-catching poster that exemplifies the personality and influence of its subject.
Visual Experimentation
Ideation for this project began with physical materials. This included printing out letterforms and phrases which were then torn, warped, collaged, rearranged, and given new identity through physical manipulation.
In the latter half of this process, I experimented with putting text through a scanner and warping it in unpredictable ways that would result in unconventional compositions.
Iteration
Refinement
By cutting out, layering, and rearranging letterforms, my composition alludes to Bootsy’s legacy and his role in ‘shaking up’ foundational principles of classical music and blues to pioneer a new genre.
As a final touch, I cut out white strips of paper and overlayed them across the letter ‘o’ to echo the visual characteristics of a guitar. Additionally, the use of closure on the letter ‘B’ creates another visual allusion to the body of a guitar.
